Rachel Rife InvestEd-STARS Regional Winner

Rachel Rife was named the Northeast Oklahoma Regional winner in the InvestEd STARS stock market competition.  More than 35 entires were received state-wide.  The Invest Ed® “Students Tracking and Researching the Stock Market” (STARS) unbiased investment education program recognized its fall winners at an awards ceremony held January 12 at the OU Faculty House in Oklahoma City. This project challenges high school students to learn the importance of investing as a long-range tool, securities fraud awareness, and time value of money. Report winners representing five regions and one overall state winner are honored each semester. Student participants researched stocks, decided which stocks to buy, and completed a risk assessment. Students set investment goals, created an online portfolio, and tracked results. At the end of the tracking period, students prepared a report detailing their investment process and explained what they learned. Winners are selected based on their reports rather than ending values of their portfolios.

Students in Ms. Miller's Fundamentals of Web Design class participated in STARS this semester.  The students researched and chose 20 different companies, created an online stock portfolio, monitored it for six weeks, then wrote a report on their results.  Rachel was complemented on her report and it was compared to college level work.  She received a plaque and $250.
