Welch Students Shine!

Congratulations to the following students on their achievements:


The Slow Pitch Softball team achieved the 2A State Academic Championship.  They will travel to Shawnee on April 30 to receive the award.  They are coached by Shelly Chuckluck and David Hindman.  What an achievement!


Seth Schaper, a freshman at WHS, recently participated in the Oklahoma State Instrumental Solo Contest that was held on the OSU campus in Stillwater.  Seth qualified for the State Contest when he received a Superior rating at the District level.  Seth received an Excellent rating at the State Contest.  Congratulations, Seth!


Congratulations to Landry Layton for winning 2nd place in the Ag Policy Division last week and qualifying for Districts!

Congratulations to Welch FFA for having the 12th place Agricultural Communications team

and the 14th place Livestock Judging team at the Conners State College Interscholastics.



Tournament of Champions


Nine Welch Middle School students competed in the Tournament of Champions at Redlands Community College in El Reno Friday, April 5.  The Tournament of Champions is the statewide written scholastic championship for middle school students.  It is sponsored by the OAAC. 

Over 500 students from across the state competed on Friday and Saturday.  Welch students competed against large schools such as Edmond, Oklahoma City, Claremore, and Weatherford, as well as several private schools.

In order to attend the TOC 6th, 7th and 8th grade students must earn a spot by placing 1st, 2nd or 3rd at a qualifying tournament.  There are several invitational TOC Qualifying tournaments held across the state. In addition to the invitational tournaments, the OAAC offered the TOCQ online.

The students who qualified to attend TOC include Gage Miller, Cruz Gonzalez, Lucas Layton, Tea Haws, Serenity Jordan, Draven Dillinger, Andrew Massey, Camy Etzel, and Nicole Feltynowski.  Students placing in the Top Ten are:  6th grade – Andrew Massey, 4th /45 in Science; 7th grade – Serenity Jordan, 9th/52 in Language Arts; Tea Haws, 5th /54; Cruz Gonzalez, 5th/ 31 in Current Events; 8th grade – Gage Miller, 4th/89 in Language Arts, 6th/ 56 in Social Studies, 2nd/75 in Science, 7th/31 in Current Events, and 6th / 44 in Algebra I.  In addition to tests in subject areas, a student can also take the Top Scholar test by qualifying in five subjects.  Gage Miller qualified and placed 6th /28 in the Top Scholar for 8th grade.

Students are sponsored by Mrs. Seigel.


7th & 8th Grade Quiz Bowl - Regional Champs!

The 7th & 8th grade quiz bowl team, coached by Mrs. Seigel, captured the Regional Title Saturday at Oilton.  Welch was ranked #1 out of eight teams in the tournament. 

They will travel to Norman in April for the State Tournament.

Welch MS Basketball Season Ends With Tournament Wins

The MS girls placed 5th at the Wyandotte Tournament on Saturday, February 2.  The boys played Ketchum for the championship.  After a hard-fought game, they received 2nd place.  Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a successful basketball season.



Mrs. Haraughty's 5th grade class honored Martin Luther King Day by having a day of service.They donated items to

a local animal shelter.  What a great example!


The 7th & 8th grade Quiz Bowl Team competed against Cleora for Districts on January 9.  Three rounds were played & Welch won all three resulting in them being named District Champs.  The team will now travel to Oilton in February for Regionals.  The students practice every Tuesday & Thursday after school and are coached by J. J. Seigel.

Addey Small was recently selected to serve as the Career Tech BMITE (business) division nominee for the

U. S. Presidential Scholar award.  Students were selected based on academic rigor, technical competence,

employability skills, and ingenuity and creativity.


Rachel Rife is the Northeast Oklahoma Regional winner in the InvestEd STARS stock market competition.  Rachel researched 20 different companies & created an online stock portfolio, monitored it for six weeks, then wrote a report on her results.  She will be recognized at a luncheon in Oklahoma City in January where the state winner will be announced.


Hailey Haskell recently signed a softball letter of intent with NEO A&M College.  Congratulations!


Welch Hosts Quiz Bowl Districts

The 5th Grade Quiz Bowl Team hosted the District Tournament on December 4.  Welch played Oklahoma Union and went 1-2. 

Both teams will advance to Regionals in January.
