Welch BPA Competes at 2024 State Leadership Conference

The Welch High School chapter of Business Professionals of America attended the State Leadership Conference on March 4-6 in Tulsa, OK.  Four students qualified to compete at state in five different events including Personal Financial Management, Intermediate Word Processing, Integrated Office Systems, Medical Terminology and Database Applications.  Members had to pre-qualify to compete at state.  Students attending were Trapper Johnson, Camryn Etzel, Cheyenne Vaughn, Simmone Bias, Olivia Ashworth, and Belinda Zacarias.  Members also attended the general session, heard state officer candidates, and browsed vendor booths.  Chapter president Trapper Johnson participated in the Parade of Presidents.  Belinda Zacarias and Cheyenne Vaughn represented Welch during the voting delegation and served in the Courtesy Corps.

Olivia Ashworth and Camryn Etzel were recognized onstage for qualifying in the Top 8 in Integrated Office Applications and Personal Financial Management, respectively. Trapper Johnson, sophomore, placed 2nd in Database Applications and qualified to compete at the 2024 BPA National Leadership Conference in Chicago, Illinois, May 10-14.

The conference will bring together an estimated six thousand delegates from across the country to vie for top honors in business and information technology skills competitions, attend leadership and professional development workshops, receive awards for community service activities and elect BPA’s 2024–25 national student leadership team.

“For students and chapter advisors attending the National Leadership Conference, the event is the culmination of a year’s work,” said Steven J. Mitchell, BPA’s executive director/CEO. “We can’t wait to celebrate these students for the energy they have devoted to advancing to nationals in competitive events, sharpening their leadership and career skills, and contributing to community betterment through service initiatives.”

“BPA provides so many opportunities for students, especially those from small schools, to travel and meet new people, to test themselves competitively, and to build leadership skills they will use in their future careers,” Gala Miller, Advisor.

While in Chicago, participants will also have opportunities to network with other BPA members and business leaders, visit famous Chicago attractions and participate in community service activities. Trapper was also selected to serve as a voting delegate for Oklahoma BPA.
