Distance Learning Guide 

    

Guidance for Parents

Overview & Purpose

  • The purpose of this guide is to provide answers and expectations during our time of distance learning.

  • Our hope is to maintain academic rigor while providing a sense of stability to our students and their families.

 

Expectations

  • Students will be required to complete assignments given by their teachers through paper packets, through digital learning, or a blend of both.

  • Students should expect to participate in learning for the suggested time frames per grade level:

    • PK:      30 minutes daily

    • K-1st:      45 minutes daily

    • 2nd-3rd:  60 minutes daily

    • 4th-5th:    90 minutes daily

    • 6th-12th:  30 minutes per teacher for a maximum of 3 hours per day

  • Virtual and packet assignments should be submitted when due.

 

  • Parents will need to actively monitor student progress/completion and check on Fridays for the following week’s lesson plan provided by the teachers.

 

Device, Supply & Packet Pick-up

  •  Pre-K - 2nd grade students will be able to pick up their materials needed for extended learning on Wednesday or Thursday (April 1 and 2) at the east elementary entrance from 10:00AM to 3:00PM both days. Students will be able to pick up personal belongings at this time as well. Your child’s teacher will have personal belongings in a bag ready to be taken home. Any school property such as a library or guided reading books will need to be returned at this time. Belongings not picked up by Friday (April 3) will be delivered to students on the meal bus route.

Packet delivery will be each Monday beginning April 6 through May 15.  Packets will be delivered on meal bus routes or through the pick-up line at school. This should be decided upon between the parent and teacher.

Students will be limited to 1 student in the building at a time to practice social distancing.  Students will clean out their locker and check out chromebooks.  Parents will sign a chrome book agreement before the device is released to them. Packet delivery/pick-up will be each Monday beginning April 6th through May 15th. Grades 6 and 7 will come on Wednesday April 1st. 8th graders will come on Thursday April 2.  

 

  • High School students check out belongings and chromebooks at the front entrance of the HS building on Wednesday and Thursday (April 1st and 2nd).  Students will be limited to 1 student in the building at a time to practice social distancing.  Students will clean out their locker, return books, and check out chromebooks. Packet delivery/pick-up will be each Monday beginning April 6th through May 15th. Freshman and sophomores will pick up items on Wednesday April 1st. Junior and seniors will pick up items on Friday April 2.  

 

  • Building principals will contact families who fail to pick up devices/supplies/packets to arrange pick up or delivery through bus routes.



 

How Students Will Receive Work

Elementary

  • PK - 2nd grade will be doing learning packets weekly.  These will be handed out at the school or through the bus routes each Monday of the week beginning April 6 - May 15.  

 

  • The 3rd - 5th grade students will be receiving their work through Google Classroom and learning packets.  These will be emailed to students through Google Classroom or distributed through learning packs that may be picked up at the school or will be delivered through bus routes each Monday of the week beginning April 6 - May 15. 

 

Middle/High School

  • Students will be provided distance learning lessons on google classroom (digital), paper packets, or both. If a packet is required there will be pick-up times scheduled.

 

  • Packets can be picked up at each student's specific building each Monday.

 

How to Return Work

 

  • Elementary parents will need to send pictures of the completed checklist to their child’s teacher when the weekly packets/learning activities have been completed.  These should be sent to the teacher Friday of the week the assignments were assigned. 

 

  • Middle/High School student work done virtually will be submitted online. Students completing paper packets will return their work each week with alternative methods, according to the pick-up/drop-off schedule.

 

Suggested Academic Schedule for Grade Levels

  • Students can expect to participate in learning for the suggested time frames per grade level:

    • PK:          30 minutes daily

    • K-1st:      45 minutes daily

    • 2nd-3rd:   60 minutes daily

    • 4th-5th:    90 minutes daily

    • 6th-12th:  30 minutes per teacher for a maximum of 3 hours per day



 

Grading

  • Yes, academic expectations and integrity remain in force and at least 2 grades per week are expected per class.

  • Student’s baseline grades will be determined from their 3rd quarter or semester average as of March 13th, 2020. 

  • Course grades can only be improved after March 13, 2020

Elementary

  • In order to receive credit, parents will need to send a picture of the completed checklist on each packet/learning activity and respond to communication from the teacher.

  •  Students are graded by participation for each subject/course.  This will provide an opportunity for students to improve their standing in each subject area. 

Middle/High School

  • Students will be given the opportunity to complete virtual/packet coursework in order to improve their grade and GPA. 

  • Teachers can use daily assignments, class completion projects, on-line programs, worksheets, Google assignments, and basic assessments for the remainder of the school year. Students will receive regular and participation points for assignments. These grades will be used as part of each student's grade/attendance for class/course credit.

  • There will be no Semester Tests.

 

How to Communicate with your child’s teacher(s)

  • Teachers will have daily office hours to assist your child and help students with any problems that might arise. Office hours will be held in a virtual platform or phone calls that will be selected by your child's teacher. This may include but is not limited to Facebook, text message, Zoom, Google Classroom, email or phone calls. 

 

  • Teachers will be attempting to make contact twice per week to check in on your child. 

  

School Issued Devices/Books Return

  • Students will be required to return their school issued devices and books on a specified date to be determined.



 

Special Education/504/RSA/ELL Students

  • Individualized Education Plans (IEP), 504s, English Language Academic Plans (ELAP) and Reading Sufficiency Plans (RSA) will be followed to the greatest extent possible. 

 

  • Related services for Occupational and Physical Therapies will be coordinated by INTEGRIS. Individualized packets will be mailed to individual students. Teletherapy via ZOOM will be provided and coordinated between INTEGRIS and parent(s)/guardian(s). Speech Therapy will be coordinated by ROYALTY SPEECH SERVICES and will be provided by teletherapy via ZOOM and individual packets. 

 

  • IEP and 504 meetings will be held through phone or video conference according to the current timeline unless an in-person meeting is requested by the parent via letter, email, text, or other form of communication. All IEP/504 team members are required to participate. 

 

Meal Options

  • Welch Public Schools will be serving grab and go meals. Any child age birth to 18 is eligible to participate. Children must be present to receive the meals. Lunch for the current day & breakfast for the following day will be served Monday through Friday at the Welch Public School Cafeteria through the circle drive or following current bus routes. The grab and go service will be from 10:00AM -11:00 AM daily following the 2019 - 2020 school calendar.  (No meals will be served on Friday, April 10 or 17.)

 

  • Welch Public Schools will be delivering meals through bus routes during the school closure.  Deliveries will begin around 10:00 AM. Students will be served lunch for the current day and breakfast for the following day.  Students or children must be present to receive the meals but should not approach the bus or give the employees handing out the meal’s hugs.  We should continue to practice social distancing.  Meals will be served daily following the 2019-2020 school calendar. (No meals will be served on Friday, April 10 or 17.)

  • Special arrangements for meals may also be made to accommodate extenuating circumstances by calling (918)788-3129 M-F 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

 

Elementary Awards and Promotions

  • Elementary Awards will be given for the year.  Details regarding how and when this will occur will be given out at a later time.

  • Award trip - We are planning a reward trip once we return to school to celebrate all the trip’s we missed out on the last nine weeks. 

  • PK Graduation and 5th Grade Promotion are being postponed at this time.  We will do them.  Details regarding how and when this will occur will be given out at a later time.

 

Senior Check-Out

  • Graduating seniors will still be required to do a checkout sheet at the end of the year. Information to follow.

 

Senior Graduation

  • We will make every attempt to hold a graduation ceremony. Graduation could be postponed to a later date in the summer. Depending on conditions and recommendations from the state and CDC guidelines. It may be necessary to take alternative measures to ensure that we recognize students.

 

Questions or Concerns

  • Please call one of the offices between 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday at 918-788-3129 extension 1 or 2 if you have any questions or extenuating circumstances that we can help you address. Office hours may be modified based on the recommendations from the State Department of Education and the CDC. If these times change students and parents will be notified on the school web page/social media and our One-Call notification system.
