College and Career Resources
Welch Public Schools integrates developmentally appropriate, comprehensive college and career readiness interventions as outlined in the ASCA Mindsets & Behaviors for Student Success (2014) and mandated by the Graduation Act of 2024. Through personalized planning, exploration tools, and real-world experiences, our school counseling program prepares students across all grade levels to make informed postsecondary decisions. Key strategies include:

  1. ICAP (Individual Career Academic Plan) Development
Counselors guide students through the ICAP process by helping them set and revise academic and career goals, reflect on progress, and align plans with their long-term aspirations.

  2. Career Exploration Using OK Career Guide
Through classroom lessons and individual advising, students complete interest and skills assessments using the OK Career Guide. They connect personal strengths to career pathways and educational opportunities, building decision-making, planning, and goal-setting skills.

  3. Individualized Career Advising and Portfolios
One-on-one sessions help students create and maintain career portfolios that include their interests, educational goals, and career plans, fostering ownership and long-term vision.

  4. Work-Based Learning Experiences
The district partners with local businesses and organizations to provide job shadowing, internships, and career exploration activities. These opportunities help students develop workplace skills, explore career fields, and gain real-world readiness.

By embedding these interventions across grade levels, Welch Public Schools equips students with the tools, insights, and experiences necessary for successful transitions to college, career, and beyond.
