Dear Welch Wildcat Families,
Welch Public Schools is aware of TikTok/Snapchat social media posts circulating today that include a list of Oklahoma schools and communities. Similar posts and lists are circulating widely across Oklahoma and in several other states as part of a viral social media trend called “Cat in the Hat” AI generated hoax videos.
The Oklahoma Counter Terrorism Intelligence Center (OCTIC), commonly referred to as the Oklahoma Fusion Center and other law enforcement agencies are aware of these posts. We will continue to work closely with law enforcement and monitor the situation.
At this time, we have received no information indicating a specific or credible threat directed toward Welch Public Schools. School will continue as normal, with our regular safety and security procedures in place.
We strongly urge parents to talk with their students about the serious nature of creating, sharing, or reposting threatening content, even when it is associated with a social media trend or intended as a joke. These posts can create unnecessary fear, disrupt schools, and result in serious consequences.
As always, the safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. If we receive information indicating a specific threat to our schools or requiring any change in school operations, we will communicate that information directly with our families.
